Cold

It's been so cold the last couple days, but of course no snow. It's just painfully cold with nothing to brighten up the grey. I'm hoping it will snow soon or else just get warm already!

This week I started going to the gym so that I can get back into the habit of running again. I hadn't ran since the summer, so Monday was a little difficult, but yesterday was great and hopefully I'll be able to get up early enough to go again tomorrow morning! I only like to go when it first opens in the morning at 6 a.m. because the rest of the day it's so crowded that I can barely run on the indoor track without getting run over by all the football players training and whatnot!

I'm getting pretty pumped for next school year. Rose and Kara and I are going to be living together in either a 3-bedroom apartment or duplex. We're hoping for the duplex because it's the same price as the 3 bedroom apartment, but they allow pets under 25 pounds so Kara could bring her dog. And maybe I can get a ferret! I've been really missing Scooter (the farm's old ferret) lately and have been watching videos of them on youtube and they're just such great little pets! If I got a girl one I would definitely name her Eris, after the goddess of discord since ferrets are little troublemakers! But yeah, we'll see how that goes.

Tomorrow, Rose and Kara and I are going to the office of the people that own the duplexes and apartments and pay the deposit to hold our spots for next school year!

Finally!

Just received an e-mail from the school saying that I have been awarded financial aid for Spring quarter! It'll pay for about half of tuition, so that's a start! I'm going to fill out the FAFSA for next year soon, hopefully I'll get more grants for next year.

There were 3 loans and 1 grant, so I accepted the grant because I wasn't sure about the loans. Interest rates and payback dates and things that I don't really understand so I decided to just go with the grant for now. I can always check the information for the loans again and accept them if they're good, but I just wasn't sure.

Anyway, today is basically the best day ever! So happy not to have to stress over that anymore.

Tomorrow I will be up at the pass, in hopefully nice weather. I completely forgot I was even teaching until just a couple hours ago. I was making plans for tomorrow with some people and then my brain clicked on and went "hey wait a minute I have a job to go to don't I...."

RainRainRainRant

Ski teaching is canceled today due to the heavy rains at the pass, so I'm going to spend today doing homework and cleaning instead!

Classes are going good. I have English 247, Nutrition 245, and Math 100B. English is nice because it's only on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 10:40. My teacher is a really funny lady who swears a lot, so of course we all like her. There's probably about 25 people in the class. Nutrition is a class of about 100 people. The stuff we're learning now is pretty much common sense stuff, like don't eat too much butter and sugar and red meat yada yada yada. Eventually we'll get into more interesting things.

And then there's math. Where do I even begin. I know I'm not the best mathematician, but I think I need to be in a different math class. I'm in this one because I did horrible on the math portion of the SAT, but that doesn't mean I need refreshers on how to add 4-digit numbers. Honestly, that's all we've been doing so far. We're going over how to add fractions and how to find the area and perimeter of a rectangle. The whole class I'm just sitting there thinking how did I end up here?? In senior year of highschool I was in Advanced Algebra & Trig, and now I'm learning the same elementary stuff I learned in 4th grade.

I feel that this is a good example of how SAT scores don't necessarily show a student's full potential. SAT day wasn't the best day for me. We got up at something like 6 in the morning on a Saturday to go take the test in the middle of nowhere because there was nowhere closer to our house to take it, so I was all tired and not at all in the mood to take a test. The writing portion was first and I got that out of the way quickly, but by the time we got to the math section (which I think was last or second to last) I just didn't care anymore. I just wanted to go home, go back to bed, forget the SAT even existed.

But once I pass this Math100B course, then I'll be free to take Math 101 and then since I'm an English major I don't have to take anymore math! Woooohoo!

Speaking of major, I think I'll go to the English department sometime next week to get an application for declaring. Then I have to get into the teaching program and do West-E and West-B tests and personality tests and make a teaching portfolio and student teach and blargblargblarg.

So sleepy

I'm so tired right now, but in a good way I think. Today was the first day of lessons at Powderpigs, and I'm super happy with my class. Only three out of seven showed up. Normally I get five year olds, but this year I have nine and ten year olds! Hallelujah! Although now I actually have to think about what to teach since I've never taught kids at this level before...

Anyway, skiing today was great and tiring. I was going to stay later for dinner and then more skiing, but I was just ready to be home for naptime! So that's what I'm going to be doing now, after eating almost an entire box of macaroni and cheese. NAPTIME!

Welcome 2011!

Today I am officially back in Ellensburg! Driving over the pass today was fantastic with the sun and the snow! Although driving past Snoqualmie Summit and not stopping for some runs on my new skis was literally painful. I'm thinking of driving back up there tomorrow to go skiing since classes don't start until Tuesday.

Made gingerbread houses over break with my friends. The one on the left was mine and Nick's, the middle one was Katy and Erin's, and the one on the right was Kara's.

Sunny and me in front of the tree!

And then I went and did the housesitting job for my mom's friend. I was there about a week when one morning we woke up to find all this snow outside! We got about 2 or 3 inches overnight.

Also over break we did the annual march around downtown Seattle! Twas just as fun as ever!

Hope everyone had a great holiday! Tomorrow I'm thinking I'll post some pictures of Ellensburg in all its snowy beauty. It's very cold here, currently 15 degrees outside and supposed to be down to 3 degrees tonight! Luckily I got a down jacket from Debbie and gang! Thanks a bunch to them for that, it will be SUPER handy around here when the weather is so darn cold all the time!
