Classes

So I got into all the classes I wanted for next quarter!

Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 10:40 I have English 247 which I think is multicultural literature.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I have Nutrition 245, which is basic nutrition. Apparently it's fun and easy and REALLY hard to get in to, so I'm excited about that one.
And then every day of the week from 12 to 12:50 I have Math 100B, which is a class I have to take before I can take Math 101. I have to take it because my math SAT scores weren't very good, so before I can take Math 101 to get my basic skills requirements done I have to take this 100B class. It shouldn't be too hard, though, I'm kind of excited about it.

Today in biology we dissected owl pellets. Haven't done that since 4th grade, so that was sorta fun. Kind of boring though. How many times in our lives do we have to dissect the vomit of owls? I think once is enough.

  1. Glad you got the classes you want. I hear that is a common frustration in the higher education system ... espeically the higher you go.

I am a weensy bit confused about what the graduation requirements are with respect to what you are taking. Since each year has 3 quarters, is it 45 credits per year that is required which adds up to 180 to graduate?

Based on your current trajectory, and planning for some unforseen mishaps along the way (class not offered the right quarter, etc.), are you going to finish in four years with all the classes you need to get your degree?

How much student teaching is required now before you can actually get a teaching job that pays money? Lisa did it so long ago that I can't remember.

What's the "work" situation in Ellensburg? Are there no jobs for college kids, or none that you want to do? Just seems like money could possibly be an issue for you at some point from now until you are on the payroll at some school.

  2. Jobs here are scarce what with it being a college town full of college kids who have taken most of the jobs. I've been keeping my eyes peeled constantly, checking job boards constantly, sending resumes and such, but to no avail so far. I am making an effort, though. It's wee bit stressful to say the least.

Based on my current trajectory, I will be able to graduate in 4 years. Possibly even quicker if I take online summer classes. I'm not sure how much student teaching we need. I want to say one quarter's worth, but I haven't quite got that nailed down yet. I suppose once I enroll in the teaching program (which I'm set up to do this spring), all that will become clearer.

My friend Kara, who is also going to be a teacher, is going to go talk to an advisor in the building that has all the teaching program people, so I'm planning on going there with her to get some answers to the confusing questions.

I'm pretty confident that everything will work itself out. When it really comes down to it, things usually have a way of popping up at just the right times and places. Must be karma at work :)
