Last night a group of my friends went to the gym to play kickball, and since I'm not a huge fan of kickball I borrowed Loren's Vibrams and ran around the track while they played.
I ran 7 laps, just one lap short of a mile, and walked probably about 4 laps after that. My calves are a teeny tiny bit sore, but other than that, I feel great!
I have to say, running in those shoes makes me feel like I could run so much farther than in my usual running shoes. In any pair of shoes I've ever ran in, I've always felt really bogged down by the heaviness of the shoes. But these are so lightweight I feel like I'm bouncing on springs! It feels way better, because instead of landing on your heels which sends a shock through your entire leg, you land more on the balls of your feet so you naturally spring forward.
It's great! I didn't want to give Loren his shoes back, and I definitely don't want to run in my shoes anymore... Luckily Loren just ordered a new pair of Vibrams and he said I could use either the new ones or his old ones until I can get a pair :)
Wow - good results with the barefoots ... now I remember a couple other people saying they had sore calfs a bit too after running in the vibrams.
ReplyDeleteNow wait .. your Dad is going to pay to have you study Bowling in College? - BaWaHaHaHaHaHa ... (not golf?)
well the bowling thing is a maybe. i'm mainly just doing it because if I have another harder class in my schedule I'd have too many credits and have to pay extra tuition, but if I don't take anything I'd be bored during the day. So I figure why not?
ReplyDeleteJust kidding - it's a good idea to lighten up on some classes if you can.
ReplyDeleteI made 2 miles without stopping today. In the rain. Dead coyote in the roadside ditch. Forget-me-nots are just about to bloom a bit. They are EVERYWHERE!
Christy might come up Saturday and run in the Smelt Run in LaConner. 10K or 5K. I'm not ready.
